Accolades for Blowing Rock!
Blowing Rock is in the media again this week with three different lists and travel recommendations!
The first is Southern Living's list of 17 Small Towns in the South for a Romantic Getaway. The piece mentions the legend of the Blowing Rock, BRAHM, Bistro Roca, Restaurant at Gideon Ridge, App Ski Mountain, and Chetola Resort. A second list was featured on the travel site Trips to Discover, a feature that included our neighbor Boone. Blowing Rock was listed among the 6 Most Charming Downtown Areas in NC! And finally, the Active Times website included Blowing Rock as the NC town in a list of Must See Under-the-Radar-Cities in Each State.
We know this kind of recognition comes from our amazing local community and businesses. Thank you for making Blowing Rock such a great place!

Real Estate Report
Rising interest rates didn’t deter home buyers in January, with local Realtors® marking the new year with continued brisk business.

The first month of the year, with its traditional snow and wintry weather mix, is usually one of the calmest, but not in 2018. Home buyers remained active in the High Country area. Read More

Blowing Rock Art & History Museum

This talk explores the role of pragmatism in shaping of the philosophy of education at Black Mountain College. 'American Pickers' Coming to North Carolina!
The popular antique-hunting television show "American Pickers" is seeking private collections that could be featured on the program. The hosts are looking for people in our area with unique antique collections and interesting stories behind them. They are looking for large unique collections, interesting multi-generational family properties, or anywhere the guys can spend the better part of a day picking good stuff. Sorry, no retail shops or single items.

People who have one of a kind items to sell should reach out ASAP by calling 1-855-OLD-RUST (653-7878), or email AmericanPickers@cineflix.com.

Mike and Frank only pick private collections so no stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses or anything open to the public.

Parkway Closures
Due to heavy rains last weekend, a rockslide has occurred on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Deep Gap. The road is closed to both lanes of traffic until rocks and debris can be removed. The closure is between the Old 421 and the Highway 421 access on the Parkway, so this does not affect Parkway traffic in the immediate area surrounding Blowing Rock , but may affect some commutes.

The closure starting next month will impact local commutes and travel to local attractions. The National Park Service announces the closure of the Linn Cove Viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway for surface repaving and bridge maintenance from March 1, 2018 through May 24, 2018. These projects require a full closure of the Parkway, including closure of the trail below the bridge; with the reopening coinciding with Memorial Day weekend. The closure will extend from Holloway Mountain Road to Hwy 221 on the other side of the Viaduct. In the meantime, Highway 221 between Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain will be the best detour.
