Public Survey Green Hill Traffic Study The Green Hill Road Traffic Study is analyzing traffic and safety concerns on Green Hill Road in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. The study will be analyzing the full length of Green Hill Road, from US 321 (Lenoir Turnpike) to the Blue Ridge Parkway. A four-question survey and an interactive map will gather input from citizens; both are active now. High Country Real Estate Four months into the year home sales in the region are up 44 percent compared to a year ago, according to the latest real estate report by the High Country Association of REALTORS©.   The number of single-family homes sold in April was a record for the month as sellers received almost 100 percent of their asking price. Land sales also remained strong.   Meanwhile more home sellers entered the market and expanded available inventory for the first time in 11 months. Read Full Release Here. Do you have the compassionate spirit needed to be a companion for someone’s journey? In partnership with Caldwell Hospice staff, volunteers serve an essential role in patient and family support, administrative and community support. Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care is hosting a two-day virtual training in June for adults and teens who are interested in becoming hospice volunteers and volunteers. This training will be held Tuesday, June 15, from 8:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., and Thursday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. via Zoom video conferencing. Jones Regional Cancer Center Watauga Medical Center announced today that Seby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center (the Cancer Center) has implemented Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) to treat cancerous tumors. Typically only available at larger centers, SBRT is an advanced technique that precisely targets a high dose of radiation directly to cancer cells.   When a tumor is located in the torso, the patient’s breathing causes it to move, making it difficult to precisely target with traditional radiation therapy.  Read full release here. Appalachian Summer Festival Appalachian State University’s annual summer arts attraction, An Appalachian Summer Festival (AASF), proudly celebrates its 37th season from July 2-31, 2021. This monthlong whirlwind of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and film programming has emerged as one of the nation’s leading regional arts festivals. After last summer’s transition to all-virtual programming, the festival is pleased to return to a full schedule of events featuring a variety of in-person outdoor and indoor performances, along with additional livestreaming and virtual options. The Turchin Center Opening The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University will be open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 – 4 pm beginning May 13. A timed reservation/ticketing entry system will be used in order to ensure the health and safety of museum visitors and staff. Admission is free; however, reservations are requested. Visitors with reservations will be given priority for entry, although visitors are also welcome on a walk-in basis, when capacity allows. Open hours will be expanded as it is deemed to be safe to do so.
