Rock Solid: Bolick & Traditions Pottery - Six Generations of Legacy
Bolick Pottery was established in 1973 by Glenn & Lula Owens Bolick. Before starting their business, they worked for Lula’s father, M.L. Owens at Original Owens Pottery in Seagrove, NC. Lula, a 5th generation potter produces sugar and creamer sets, honey pots, candle holders, and many other functional forms. Glenn and Lula’s daughter Janet has followed in their “tradition” and as the 6th generation, founded “Traditions Pottery” with her husband Michael in 1992. Janet carries on the traditional shapes of candlesticks, teapots, and Rebekah pitchers as her Grandfather did before her. Michael started making pottery after marrying Janet in 1986. His Santas, Wizards, Mrs. Claus, and Clay Spirits face jugs are highly sought after. Michael and Janet also offer a large line of functional wares including plates, bowls, mugs, and unique items for entertaining. Their workshop is located just across the creek from Bolick Pottery, and their retail store is located on Main Street in downtown Blowing Rock.
