Back-to-Back Ribbon Cuttings in Blowing Rock

Last week ended with the welcoming of two exciting new businesses to our community!

On Thursday, October 18, we started off at Tanger Outlets with the grand opening ribbon cutting celebration for Fireflies. Owner Keith Nelsen and his family opened this new dining spot for shoppers and other area visitors about six weeks ago. The menu features fresh soups, chili, salads and sandwiches and will soon include brunch and dinner options. Vegan and gluten-free dishes are available as well. A new outdoor patio was installed last week, inviting guests to enjoy the fall weather, perhaps while sipping beer or wine from the Fireflies bar. The menu is also well-suited for catering lunches for local businesses.

On Friday, October 19, artist and gallery owner Mike Gaydon welcomed the community to his new space on the second floor of the Martin House with a ribbon cutting and artist reception in the Martin House courtyard. The walls of the Martin House Gallery are lined with paintings and photographs by renowned artists from North Carolina and beyond, now including celebrated fresco and oil painter Ben Long, who attended the grand opening event. Included in Long's current exhibit is a self portrait. Other works on display range from realistic oil paintings to abstract and contemporary work in a variety of mediums. Fellow Martin House tenants and Chamber members Blue Mountain Laurel Floristry, Blue Ridge Mountain Club and The Mountain Thread Company joined in the celebration.
