TASTE! will be held April 20th, 6 - 8 pm and is a culinary compilation showcasing many of the Blowing Rock and High Country restaurants. Restaurants will serve small plate sized portions of some of their signature dishes. North Carolina produced beers, wines and other beverages will also be available for tasting. Speakers Jonathan Jordan (NC House Rep) and Judge Ed Gregory explained how the newly proposed nonpartisan redistricting map was developed as an alternative to our current redistricting process.

Real Estate Report The local real estate market continues hitting high marks in early 2017. Sales are up from a year ago. Inventory is increasing and interest rates are slowly inching up. All three trends portend another busy year for the High Country Association of Realtors®, which represents real estate professionals in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties.

This week, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation released its annual “Facts & Figures 2017: How Does Your State Compare?” report, which outlines each of the 50 states’ tax climates. The report compares every state’s overall tax climate, corporate and income taxes, state-local tax burdens and state revenue, among other tax measures.
