Blowing Rock State of the Town

 

State of the Town
Thursday, November 18th at 5:30pm
American Legion
The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce’s Community, Government & Education Committee in partnership with the Town of Blowing Rock invite all residents and business owners to attend the annual State of the Town event Thursday, November 18th at 5:30 pm in the American Legion Building on Wallingford Street. The event will be recorded for anyone who cannot attend. Join us to learn about exciting current and future projects in the Town of Blowing Rock as well as look at the economic indicators. The Town’s report will be presented by Mayor Sellers and Town Manager, Shane Fox.
 
Charles Hardin will update the audience on the current projects and initiatives of the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce and the Village Foundation.
 
Tracy Brown, Executive Director of Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority will present the initiatives of the Authority along with year end occupancy numbers and how covid 19 has affected tourism and marketing of the Village.
 
This year we are pleased to host Chuck Mantooth, President and CEO of Appalachian Regional Healthcare System to provide an update on the Watauga Medical Center expansion project. This has been a major point of interest with the active construction site.
 
This special event will bring everyone up to date on various projects taking place around Town and the Chamber of Commerce’s events and programs. Questions will be taken in advance via email to HardinCE@BlowingRock.com so that the speakers can ensure that all areas of interest are addressed. Additional questions will also be taken at the conclusion of the presentations.
 

We look forward to sharing all the great accomplishments and future projects that are planned for the next year.

An event that authentically connects our local talent and the organizations that need them in ways that traditional networking events or job fairs simply don't. This is a high-energy, hyperlocal event that features dueling, open-mic pitches where companies looking for talent, and people that have talent, each deliver alternating 60-second pitches. The event is followed by a casual but impactful networking reception.

CACCE 2022 Board of Directors
The Carolinas Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (CACCE) is pleased to announce their 2022 Board of Directors. 
The following chamber professionals have been elected to serve on the 2022 Executive Committee:

NCDOT Notice
Highway 321 will be reduced down to 2 lanes south of Blowing Rock from November 8, 2021 to December 15, 2021. Both southbound lanes will be closed during this time to allow for work to be conducted on the rock face just south of the Blackberry condos (Caldwell County). Southbound traffic will merge into the northbound lane during this time, and the northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.

With unpredictable staffing and abrupt changes in travel patterns due to covid-19, restaurant hours have been changing often. The Chamber of Commerce is currently maintaining a listing of Blowing Rock restaurant hours. The hours are updated weekly. Bookmark this page for reference so you can help your guests and customers when they are looking for dining! 

Watauga Covid-19 Update
 In areas with substantial and high transmission, the CDC recommends that everyone (including fully vaccinated individuals) wear a mask in public indoor settings to help prevent the spread of the Delta variant, and to protect others. Watauga County is considered an area of High transmission.

AppHealthCare offers COVID-19 testing by drive-thru Monday through Friday 8:30-10:00am at each of our clinic locations. No appointment is needed.

Yonder Mountain String Band & Del McCoury Band
The Schaefer Center Presents (SCP) performing arts series, presented by Appalachian State University’s Office of Arts and Cultural Programs, welcomes Yonder Mountain String Band and the Del McCoury Band on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 7pm at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. Yonder Mountain String Band has redefined bluegrass music, expanding the traditional acoustic genre beyond its previously established boundaries by steadily pushing the envelope into the realms of rock n’ roll and improvisation. The Del McCoury Band, fronted by the legendary McCoury, is the most awarded band in bluegrass history. The bands take the stage together for a one-night-only highly anticipated double-bill concert. Tickets are $45 adults, $40 faculty/staff, $25 students. A livestream option is also available for $15 per household.

For each new or renewed specialty plate fee, $20 goes to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation to protect and enhance the scenic route. An additional $10 supports the N.C. Community Care Clinic Auction
The Community Care Clinic is a nonprofit, free clinic that provides healthcare to low-income, uninsured people in the high country. Through an integrated healthcare model, patients have access to high-quality services that include primary care, specialty care, dental care, mental health services, disease management, and continuity of care.
The clinic is staffed by volunteer, local, general and specialty physicians, mid-level care providers, a small support staff, and an average of 100 volunteers.
To provide these free healthcare services, the clinic is completely dependent on grants, private and corporate donations, fundraising events, and the generous donations of individual supporters like you.

AMOREM
October is breast cancer awareness month, and AMOREM wants to remind women to be tested! The American Cancer Society recommends that all women over the age of 40 get an annual mammogram and a clinical physical exam.
