Weekly Village Update 5.6.21

 

Chamber News
The Chamber grieves with the community as we honor the passing of several community members this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Sgt. Chris Ward, K-9 Deputy Logan Fox and Michelle & George Ligon.
Viewing arrangements have been made available for those not able to attend the funeral services for Sergeant Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox, scheduled for 3:00pm on Thursday, May 6th at the Holmes Convocation Center of Appalachian State University.
 
The service will be made available by livestream on the AppTV channel and their Facebook Page, along with the Watauga County Emergency Services Facebook Page.

You can view Michelle and George's funeral service online here starting at 2pm on Saturday.
Symphony by the Lake
This week the Chamber Board of Directors agreed to host the Symphony by the Lake at Chetola on Friday, July 23rd.

More information about the event and tickets sales will be release soon.

Art in the Park
Art in the Park begins Saturday, May 22nd.

Art in the Park is located on Park Ave in downtown Blowing Rock and is open the public from 10am - 5pm.

Free Admission. Free Trolley Shuttle from Tanger.

Tunes at the Trout
The Speckled Trout and Bottle Shop has release their Tunes at the Trout line up for the month of May. Join them on Thursday's and select Mondays for live music.
Seasonal Hours
The Village Cafe has expanded hours to Tuesday thru Sunday, 8am-2pm, starting this weekend. 

Azalea Garden Inn has reopened for the 2021 season, and the seasonal kiosks at South Marke are opening their doors as well. Check the hours for the places you like to recommend to guests and customers!
Appalachian Summer Festival
Appalachian State University’s annual summer arts attraction, An Appalachian Summer Festival (AASF), proudly celebrates its 37th season from July 2-31, 2021. This monthlong whirlwind of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and film programming has emerged as one of the nation’s leading regional arts festivals. After last summer’s transition to all-virtual programming, the festival is pleased to return to a full schedule of events featuring a variety of in-person outdoor and indoor performances, along with additional livestreaming and virtual options. Tickets for festival events will be available online and at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts box office beginning Monday, May 10 at 9am. For more information, visit www.appsummer.org or call the box office at 828-262-4046.
The Turchin Center Opening
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University
will be open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 – 4 pm beginning May 13. A timed reservation/ticketing entry system will be used in order to ensure the health and safety of museum visitors and staff. Admission is free; however, reservations are requested. Visitors with reservations will be given priority for entry, although visitors are also
welcome on a walk-in basis, when capacity allows. Open hours will be expanded as it is deemed to be safe to do so. For more information about protocols and procedures as well as to make a reservation for timed entry, visit tcva.org
