All Chamber networking events will be following the current NC Covid-19 Guidelines. You will need to RSVP to all Chamber networking events to help us manage capacity limits. An invitation will be sent two weeks in advance of each event. Please RSVP!
Delivery Trucks on Main Street
Businesses are requested to work with all your vendors and suppliers to get all large truck deliveries completed by 10:00 am. Remember, these suppliers work for you. They will do what you request if you tell them how important it is for these vehicles not to be impeding traffic flow on Main Street and Sunset after 10:00 am. If they don’t want to follow the rules, there are plenty of competitors who will. They will only do this if you, the customer makes it important to them. The restricted traffic flow causes issues for visitors and residents alike, both of which could be your customers. These trucks also take up valuable parking space intended for YOUR customers.
Cooking Classes at Caldwell Community College
Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Watauga Campus will be hosting a series of Community Cuisine cooking classes for adults beginning in March. The classes will be held in the culinary kitchen in building W-141 on CCC&TI’s Watauga campus in Boone. Space is limited for each class. Participants will be required to complete a health screening and temperature check prior to the start of each class and will also be required to wear a mask except when eating meals.
For more information or to register for any of these culinary offerings, call 828-297-3811 or visit www.cccti.edu.
Tax Update
If you haven’t already heard, the state and federal tax filing deadline has been extended from April 15 to May 17. Without changes to state law, interest will accrue on any taxes owed beginning April 15. The Chamber will continue to advocate for that change, as well as that state tax policies regarding deductible business expenses using PPP funds will mirror those at the federal level.

Mountain Alliance provides transformative experiences and support to all Avery and Watauga teenagers, regardless of means or background. Through volunteer service, challenging outdoor adventure, cultural outings, after school academic support and mentorship, we strive to unlock the leadership potential present in every teen. Our partnerships with Avery and Watauga County Schools help students achieve success in school, graduate, dream big and and achieve their goals as they become the next leaders in our community. The annual Dining Guide is one of our largest fundraisers and 100% of the proceeds support the Mountain Alliance mission in Watauga and Avery counties. Purchase a dinning guide online here.
Grandfather Mountain Dollar Days
Grandfather Mountain will open its gates to High Country residents, employees, and their guests for only $3 each April 1-23, as the park’s “Dollar Days” promotion returns in time for spring.

The promotion allows anyone who lives or works in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, or Wilkes counties — along with their guests traveling in the same vehicle — to visit at the discounted rate. Students attending a local college or university are also eligible for the discount.

Due to COVID-19, however, Dollar Days guests must book their visit online at www.grandfather.com. To take advantage of the reduced rate, guests must choose the Dollar Days admission rate when reserving their visit.

Caldwell Hospice
Sisters Lucy and Marie, both in their mid-80s, have always lived together and taken care of each other. Whey Lucy was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Marie did her best to take care of her sister, but struggled with managing Lucy’s medications and the disease process. Learn how they found help at https://www.caldwellhospice.org/about/news.
