Tennis Tournament 12:00 PM-4:00 PM Doubles, Round robin style 32 Entries available! Entry Fee includes Happy Hour $75 for DVAC Members and $100 for Non-Members Round Robin: Participants will register themselves individually and will NOT play with the same doubles partners all day. Instead, participants will play with a variety of doubles partners according to their approximate skill levels. Blowing Rock Horse Show During this year’s 98th consecutive Blowing Rock Horse Show, the main ring at the L. M. Tate Show Grounds will be dedicated to the memory of Sallie and Kenny Wheeler of Keswick, VA.   The Wheelers loved their times in Blowing Rock and supported the horse show for decades. From their home base at Cismont Manor Farm in Keswick, Sallie competed in both Saddlebred and Hunter Divisions while Kenny dominated the Hunter ring with a consistent string of talented Green Conformation and Working Hunters. The couple showed throughout the United States, and at one time or another won every major championship in their various competitive divisions. Kenny’s success extended into the Breeding Division where he clinched the Best Young Horse Award thirty-four times at the prestigious Devon Horse Show.  Read Full Press Release Here. Click here for a full list of courses. Artist in Residence  A daily event to recommend! This week's Artists in Residence are Tunde Afolayan Famous and Lee Harper, both painters. Famous, a Nigerian-born artist, is considered one of today’s most prolific African contemporary artists. Exploring color as the basis of painting, he infuses spiritualism and symbolism in his work. His paintings been exhibited in galleries and museums in Nigeria, Europe and the US. A native of Hickory, Lee Harper attended the Juilliard School of Music and graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts with a degree in dance. Miss Harper’s art work in oil includes still life, dancers, landscapes and more.   Artists in Residence at Edgewood Cottage continues through September 19 and is open every day. We are excited for this person to join the team, but first we need to find them housing! The long term rental market is slim and we are hoping our members can help. Click here for a full list of courses. Virtual Tour of Homes The 2021 Tour of Homes is virtual, and the charity event is currently accepting donations in place of ticket sales. It's organized by St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church. If you get questions about the event, please direct people to the church's website, where they can find home details, the video, and donation link. Artist in Residence  A daily event to recommend! This week's Artists in Residence are Kelly Gross and Randy Blake Clontz, both oil painters. Kelly is an emerging artist specializing in oil paintings of the natural world. Her work is a blend of realism and impressionism, working with vibrant colors and deep contrasts of light and shadow.  After pursuing art education in Detroit and work opportunities in Chicago, Randy relocated back home to Hickory in 2002 to create beautiful oil landscapes of the North Carolina mountains. Randy’s commissioned oil portraits appear in private, corporate, and public collections in Chicago, Michigan, California, & NC.   Artists in Residence at Edgewood Cottage continues through September 19 and is open every day.
