Town of Blowing Rock Mask Mandate
On Tuesday, August 24th the Blowing Rock Town Council held an emergency meeting to discuss COVID-19. In this meeting Council voted 5-0 to make face masks mandatory within town limits while indoors in an public facility (retail, restaurants, office, etc.).

The State of Emergency Declaration requiring Face Masks to be worn indoors in public buildings will begin Friday, August 27th at 5:00pm and will remain effect until further notice.

App Regional Healthcare System Update
According to the CDC (August 6), the best way to reduce the chances of severe illness, hospitalization, or death from COVID-19, including the Delta variant, is to be vaccinated. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available through ARHS for adults age 18 and older at the following locations. On August 13, 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a COVID vaccine 3rd dose to provide additional protection for certain immunocompromised individuals.

Community Calendar Dates & Photos
We need public event and meeting dates for the 2022 Blowing Rock Community Calendar! Send event information by October 1.
Photos are also being accepted for inclusion. This year's image theme is buildings: whether they are historical or simply unique to Blowing Rock. Final images are selected based on quality and aesthetic variety. All images must be horizontal, high resolution, and printable to at least 10.5" x 8". If you'd like to submit an image for consideration, send by September 15.

Blowing Rock School Playground Restroom
The Blowing Rock Leadership Challenge Class of 2019 has finally completed their class project!

The Restroom at the Blowing Rock School Playground is open from 9am-6pm seven days a week. The restroom will be maintained by Blowing Rock School and the Town of Blowing Rock.

Please join the Chamber on Monday, September 20th at 5pm for the official ribbon cutting.

The High Country Food Hub is excited to announce their first Satellite Pickup Location at the Blowing Rock Farmer's Market, launching on Thursday, September 2, from 3-6pm on Park Ave. Order from local farms on the online marketplace by Monday, August 30 at highcountryfoodhub.org and be sure to select Thursday pickup at the Blowing Rock Farmer's Market in your account overview. Alair Homes Good Neighbor Day
The Alair Homes Good Neighbor Day event is right around the corner on Saturday, September 26th from 3-6pm! Come out for
a fun afternoon with live music, a birdhouse craft station, lawn games, a bounce
house, and much more! The proceeds from this event will go to support the Hunger
and Health Coalition’s A Simple Gesture Program, Mountain Alliance, Middle Fork
Greenway, and Lemonade For Change.

Artist in Residence
Artists in Residence continues, a daily event to recommend! This week's Artists in Residence is Fredrick Craig Franz, Landscapes in Oil and Soft Pastels. A forty-two year resident of the High Country, Frederick ‘Craig’ Franz’s home in Avery County is a landscape artist’s dream. Working in soft pastels and oils, his award-winning paintings are created both plein air and in the studio. 
 
Artists in Residence at Edgewood Cottage continues through September 19 and is open every day.

Infrastructure & Jobs Act
The Senate recently voted—with overwhelming bipartisan approval—to pass the $1 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The legislation will now head to the House for consideration. In North Carolina, this would provide significant funding for federal-aid highway apportioned programs, public transportation, bridge replacement and repairs, broadband coverage, and more.

Hunger Co. Fall Blast
Saturday, September 25th

Mark your calendars for this years Fall Blast! This beloved clay tournament event is happening again in 2021 and we are so excited to host participants from last year as well as new ones.
Held at the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain Club participants can enjoy a Shotgun Style tournament with 12 stations nestled in the woods of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Breakfast and lunch will be provided as well as a wine social after the event. Stick around for fun prizes as well as a silent auction.

High Country Caregivers Motown Night
Tuesday, September 14th

We are always very excited about our flagship annual fundraiser “A Night at Chetola.” This event, held lakeside at Chetola Resort features a five course meal, open bar, silent auction, and live music/dancing entertainment.
For 2021, the live music is generously provided by the award-winning 8-piece Motown band, “The Business.”

TWO EVENTS, ONE GREAT DAY SUPPORTING COMMUNITY HEALTH!

Doubles, Round robin style
32 Entries available!
Entry Fee includes Happy Hour
$75 for DVAC Members and $100 for Non-Members
Round Robin: Participants will register themselves individually and will NOT play with the same doubles partners all day. Instead, participants will play with a variety of doubles partners according to their approximate skill levels.
Happy Hour on the Deer Valley pool deck
5-7 PM
Non-Player Entry Fee for Happy Hour: $50
Happy Hour is included with the Tennis Tournament entry, but non-tennis player supporters are encouraged to join us for wine and beer, heavy hors d'ouevres provided by High Country Greek, live music by Those 3 Guys Band, and a silent auction.

Artist in Residence
This month, Our State Magazine includes Edgewood Cottage in a feature on educational travel experiences. The description connected the history of the cottage to its current programming: "The history of Edgewood Cottage as a space for cultivating new and emerging artists goes back to 1895, when Daingerfield began teaching the 'Paintin' Ladies,' students from the Philadelphia School of Design for Women, during the summer."
 
Artists in Residence continues, a daily event to recommend! This week's Artists in Residence is David Collins, Landscapes, Plein Air & Acrylics In Studio. Having contracted polio as a young child, David passed time drawing, coloring, constructing and painting with watercolor. In addition to street art in Lakeland, FL, David offers plein air landscapes and studio acrylics.
 
Artists in Residence at Edgewood Cottage continues through September 19 and is open every day.
